Cool start to the day and the engine cowls were up first. To get the top (reference) cowl in the right location we made some more tabs for the upper edge. |
After some more trimming / shaping this is the latest situation. |
RHS looks good - small (1/16") gap at the bottom, the LHS is a bit more of a problem - about 3/16". |
This is the spinner gap - I think the best option will be to increase it slightly, this will move the lower cowl back a little, increase the clearance and still look OK. When the engine drops, hopefully the left/right gaps will balance out and the spinner should (might) end up central in the cowl opening. |
Then temps coming up - I continued the countersink of the side rails. |
Next was all the rear canopy locations. These are very visible countersinks with just the screw head to fill them, so I took my time. |
Lunchtime I got a call from a local builder, who flew over in his RV6 - one of the first built in the NZ - and spent the afternoon chatting. As per-usual time well spent with an experienced builder / flyer. One thing I've learnt with this project is the effort in research and information gathering from all / any sources is always worthwhile. |
Sam left from the local airfield early evening - and yes he did have to shepherd the sheep of the runway before take off - A whole new set of skills for flight test! |
